Carbohydrate Synthesis Company Profile

Vastox Ltd

VASTox was formed in January 2003 and has listed on the AIM segment of the London Stock Exchange in October 2004. VASTox operates from a state of the art facility in Milton Park, near Oxford and currently employs over 40 staff.

The growing understanding of the roles that carbohydrates play in biological processes has opened the door for the development of a host of novel carbohydrate-based therapeutics. Once considered poor targets for medicinal chemistry, carbohydrates are now being manipulated into drug-like targets by numerous sophisticated processes. At VASTox we apply our extensive knowledge of carbohydrate chemistry in two areas: 1. Custom synthesis We have significant experience of synthesising small molecules such as azasugars and nucleosides through to more complex oligosaccharide and glycopeptide moieties. 2. Prodrugs We design and synthesise sophisticated carbohydrate prodrugs to address issues such as improvement of therapeutic index, bioavailability (GI, BBB) and stability.

At VASTox we see carbohydrate chemistry as a largely unexploited area with huge potential for generating novel and exciting therapeutics. We use our team of highly experienced chemists and our state-of-theart facilities to offer solutions in all areas carbohydrate chemistry.
